About this place
Vegetable tempura is a natural partner for soba at Susakabean. The vegetable tempura soba is available with hot soba or zaru soba, and you can also order an assortment of vegetable tempura separately. Diners have praised the seasonal vegetables and the crisp texture of the tempura. Pair it with cold soba for a lighter meal that lets the tempura take centre stage, or choose hot soba for a warming bowl.
For a closer taste of the soba itself, zaru soba is listed at ¥1,000 and grated daikon soba at ¥1,200. Some diners have remarked on the noodles’ firm texture, while others enjoyed their refreshing flavour, making cold soba a good place to start. Mushroom soba is available hot or cold, as is yamakake soba topped with grated tsukune yam. One diner’s review mentions having yamakake soba in summer. The choice of temperature and toppings makes it easy to suit the dish to the season or your mood.
At lunchtime, you can add ¥300 to any soba order for a set meal with rolled omelette, chikuwa fish cake fried in seaweed batter and the day’s small side dish. Seasonal flavoured rice is also available at lunchtime for ¥300; the restaurant says it uses Koshihikari rice from Kyotamba Town. Choose a lighter meal centred on soba, or add side dishes or rice for something more substantial.
The house-made yuzu kosho is also offered as a take-home item. The restaurant notes that it is quite salty and recommends adding it a little at a time to taste. If you would like to try it as a condiment with your soba, start sparingly.
